With increased screening and resources made available, patients and families are seeing an increased demand for professionals trained in successful strategies and treatments utilizing applied behavior analysis. Board Certified Behavior Analysts® (BCBA®) will utilize research-based functional behavior assessment methods to treat various populations in areas of education, social/emotional learning, substance abuse treatments, and more.

MA in Forensic Linguistics

Hofstra’s MA in Forensic Linguistics is the first program of its kind in the Western Hemisphere, designed for students who want to combine scientific linguistic training with applied work in legal and investigative contexts. You will learn tools like phonetics, syntax, semantics, sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, and dialectology, and you'll apply them to real-world cases via workshops and internships. Full-time students typically finish in two years (part-time over three), completing 36 semester hours that includes a master’s thesis. Students have the flexibility to complete this program in person, online, or hybrid.

MS in Medical Physics

The MS in Medical Physics at Hofstra prepares students for careers in imaging, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine, and related fields. It’s CAMPEP accredited and combines rigorous coursework with basic, applied, and clinical research opportunities, plus mentored practicum experiences through partner health systems. Students must have an undergraduate degree in physics or a closely related field with substantial physics/mathematics prerequisites. The MS requires 39 semester hours and aims to prepare graduates for residencies, junior clinical physicist roles, or further study.

Advanced Certificate in Medical Dosimetry

Offered in collaboration with Northwell Health, the Advanced Certificate in Medical Dosimetry is a non-degree program that provides the didactic and clinical training needed to design, calculate, and oversee radiation dose distributions in oncology, including both external beam therapy and brachytherapy. Coursework covers physics, anatomy and physiology, radiobiology, and treatment equipment characteristics. The program combines a broad-based academic foundation with applied workshops and internship experiences, giving students the opportunity to work directly on ongoing cases in professional settings.

Doctoral Study in Psychology

Hofstra University’s doctoral programs in psychology prepare students for advanced careers in research, practice, and leadership. The PhD in Applied Organizational Psychology focuses on workplace behavior and organizational effectiveness through coursework, internships, and a dissertation, typically completed in about three years. Both the PhD in Clinical Psychology and the PsyD in School-Community Psychology are accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). The Clinical Psychology PhD is a full-time, five-year program blending research, coursework, and clinical experience, while the School-Community PsyD integrates school and community practice through consultation, assessment, and intervention, including a practicum and one-year predoctoral internship. Hofstra’s Counseling and Mental Health programs prepare students to help individuals, families, and communities through specialized study in Creative Arts Therapy Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, and School Counseling. Each combines academic rigor with hands-on training at the on-campus Counseling and Mental Health Professions (CMHP) Clinic, where students work directly with clients under faculty supervision. The Creative Arts Therapy Counseling MA is accredited by CAAHEP and leads to New York State licensure while the Mental Health and Rehabilitation Counseling programs are CACREP accredited and meet state requirements for professional counseling.
